Did you know YouTube exceeds 2 billion views a day? I sure didn't. I knew a lot of people watched videos, but I never thought to put a number to it. The number of videos uploaded is more astounding; 24 hours of video is uploaded every minute. That's a lot of content, a lot of people working hard to produce things for people to watch.
I have a respect for the people who make YouTube videos, that's a lot of dedication and time. Plus you need to have a tough skin, not let the people's nasty comments phase you. There's a passion that goes a long with it, and these are the people I've always admired - people who are on fire, and love what they do.
There's a freedom of speech that goes along with making YouTube videos, you're allowed to say what you want (and by this I mean your opinions on the world and things you think are cool).
^ This is LiveLavaLive. He's one of my favourite YouTube stars. One, he's funny. Two, he's cute. Three, he makes a lot of different types of videos - promotions, lip syncs, acting (scripts he wrote), and the list goes on. The video I've included is one of my favourites, :)
He also promotes things that he thinks are cool - like Tom shoes for instance - in this New Years video.
This video actually gave Kristi and I some inspiration for a stop motion video; I like his style and way of going about putting together videos.
Another of my favourite YouTube stars is Strawburry17. She also has a lot of different videos, and hosts a bunch of Music Video contests. I like her videos because they're super professionally made; videos are always better when they're made well.
And she does both filming aaand animation, which I think is pretty cool.
Finally, we've got one of my most recent finds, Jennxpenn. She made a super good lip sync video for Strawburry's contest, that's how I found her.
I actually have no idea how old she is, but I think it's awesome that she can be reasonably young and still make videos that are made and edited well. I wish I had the computer skills she has, that's for sure.
In this next video, I know she's annoying, but this video made me laugh when I saw it. It's not the person, it's the idea that I like about this video.
So those people up here? Yeah, they're just a small portion of my inspiration. I think it's cool to be able to express yourself on film. I'm not saying that I want to be like aaany of these people here, and by like them I mean personality, or types of video even. I think the problem with YouTube is that people tend to act fake for the camera, so obviously if this is something I choose to pursue I'd avoid that. I like the idea of filming YouTube videos and so this is just one little thing that I've always wanted to try :)
The Livelavalive guy is very funny. The garage band schtick is great.
ReplyDeleteI have some people I follow on youtube. One that my son showed me is Philip DeFranco. He can be crude sometimes but he is very honest and I respect that.
One thing I wondered about is how to find good youtube stuff. I use PLN's a lot (personal learning networks) and I wondered if there is a twitter hash or some way to find the people you who are doing great things on youtube that are in your interest area.
Learning how to save time and find the best stuff fast is so important these days. Any advice? I know Twitter helps me find info really fast instead of surfing and searching.
I think this is a great blog, it is so entertaining watching YouTube videos and sometimes it scares me how much time you can spend on this site. I've spent hours procrastinating while watching videos! I liked your point about having a thick skin, very true. So many people use the internet as a way to complain, it would hurt to hear some opinions. However, taking the time to make these videos (a lot of hard work and heart goes into each video)has made me respect every person who has put a video up. I quite enjoyed watching these videos and love this blog!
ReplyDeleteFor design ideas follow TechZader on twitter. He gives great sites with free pics, patterns, fonts, etc. Have you done a youtube vid yet? If not I now assign one for class. Will you be filming screenplay?
ReplyDeleteShannon - I'm not one of those people who wastes time on YouTube, I think my favorite thing to do is find playlists people made and listen to some new music :) Yes, I think it's crazy how people can make videos eevery week, it's a lot of work for something like a free account on a site. I totally respect these people :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Johnston - I honestly have no idea how I find people on YouTube. A lot of the people I follow are requested by my friends, so that's always helpful :) Also, I find that YouTube stars have a lot of friends who are also into making videos (which makes sense, you spend time with people who have similar interests as you), and their friends either help make videos or sometimes make guest appearances.
I didn't know you assigned a video project, that's super cool :) Kristi and I have already filmed our screenplay, it's in the works :) Just need to edit it all together, so we'll see how that goes :)
